Ukrainian Ministry of Defence demining units cleared 999 hectares of liberated territory in August, including 106.8 hectares of agricultural land, 27.15 km of roads and 40.7 km of railway tracks. A total of 304 explosive objects were destroyed.
For comparison, the average monthly rate during the first half of 2026 was approximately 786 hectares. July saw 923 hectares cleared, while August reached 999 hectares. This means that the pace of clearance has accelerated for two consecutive months.
The structure of the work has also changed. In July, agricultural land was the main priority, with 203.65 hectares cleared, alongside 50.27 km of railway. In August, the focus shifted toward roads, with 27.15 km cleared compared with 20.43 km in July, while the area of cleared agricultural land nearly halved. This may indicate a reallocation of resources toward frontline logistics rather than solely toward restoring agricultural production.
Since the beginning of Russia’s full-scale invasion, 483,002 explosive objects have been neutralized. Demining operations involve units of the Armed Forces of Ukraine and the State Special Transport Service.
The August figures demonstrate a clear acceleration in Ukraine’s demining capacity. However, the changing structure of the cleared areas also shows that demining is increasingly linked to immediate logistical and military requirements, alongside the longer-term recovery of liberated territories.
