Since the beginning of the full-scale invasion, more than 40,700 sq km of territory in Ukraine have already been returned to safe use. This was reported by the Ministry of Defence during the international Ukraine Mine Action Partner Coordination Workshop 2026 in Geneva.

Humanitarian demining is being carried out amid constant shelling and the risk of renewed contamination of cleared areas. Therefore, the key priorities remain the safety of people and effective threat management. The Ministry of Defence emphasizes that Ukraine is effectively developing new approaches to demining, adapting them to the changing conditions of the war.

Large-scale land clearance is part of the state strategy for restoring de-occupied regions and creating a safe environment for civilians. In March 2026 alone, demining units cleared 876 hectares, while more than 2,800 hectares have been cleared since the beginning of the year.
