International security expert, retired Major General of the Armed Forces of Ukraine Mykola Zentsev commented on potential threats from russia and the risks to regional stability.

The Balkans remain one of the most vulnerable regions in Europe to external destabilization. Russia is seeking new opportunities to expand its influence, exploit existing political and social divisions, and create additional pressure points within the European security environment.

The potential use of the Balkans as a platform for hybrid operations represents a broader challenge to European security. Moscow can exploit unresolved regional disputes, political polarization, economic dependencies, and information vulnerabilities to undermine stability without resorting to direct military confrontation.
