Ukraine has presented the GRIT digital system in Baku, a solution that uses national data and artificial intelligence to help prioritize areas for humanitarian demining. The system was presented during an international event focused on mine action and modern approaches to demining.

GRIT is designed to improve the planning of humanitarian demining by identifying areas that require priority assessment and clearance. The system analyzes available data and generates priority assessments, helping direct demining resources to areas where risks are highest and the impact of clearance can be greatest.

The use of artificial intelligence is becoming an important component of Ukraine’s digital transformation of mine action. By processing large volumes of data, AI-based technologies can support decision-making, improve planning efficiency, and help accelerate the clearance of contaminated territories.

Ukraine faces one of the world’s largest mine contamination challenges as a result of russia’s full-scale war. The development and deployment of digital technologies, automation, and artificial intelligence therefore play an increasingly important role in returning contaminated land to safe use.
